About Chicago's Project Playhouse

HomeAid Chicago and American Girl® presented an unique Project Playhouse® event showcasing a house built by Pardee Homes® featuring American Girl's Kit Kittredge. Chicago’s event was performed in conjunction with HomeAid’s national playhouse showcase efforts and the nationwide movie premiere of "Kit Kittredge, An American Girl" movie starring Academy Award® nominee Abigail Breslin.

The pint-size playhouse “American Girl® Kit’s Home on Abbott Place was unveiled on June 17 at The John Hancock Center and remained on display through July 13. The unveiling of the custom-built creation coincided with the release of Kit Kittredge: An American Girl, which premiered in Chicago on June 17 and opened in theaters nationwide on July 2, 2008.

Fans of American Girl® had the opportunity to see this replica of Kit's Depression-era house while supporting HomeAid's efforts to provide housing for the transitionally homeless, as well as Friends of Santa, a non-profit that fulfills holiday wishes for underprivileged children.

The drawing for the playhouse, with all proceeds benefiting HomeAid Chicago and Friends of Santa, was held on July 14, 2008 where a winner was selected at random.
